Altoona-Johnstown bishop eulogizes Paterno as ‘good Catholic,’ friend

ALTOONA, Pa. – Although Joe Paterno will be remembered as “a legend throughout our region and throughout our country,” Bishop Mark L. Bartchak said the iconic football coach will be best remembered in the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown as “a good Catholic, a family man and a friend to many.”

Cardinal-designate condemns Obama administration’s decision on contraceptive coverage

While in Rome earlier on Jan. 20, Cardinal-designate Edwin F. O’Brien, apostolic administrator of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, condemned the Obama administration’s decision to leave unchanged a Health and Human Services mandate that virtually all health plans provide for sterilization, abortifacients and contraception.
